CMSC’s Clinician Guide to the 2021 Consensus Recommendations on MRI Use in Multiple Sclerosis

In December 2023, The Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC) launched a continuing medical education (CME) activity focusing on the 2021 MAGNIMS-CMSC-NAIMS consensus recommendations on the use of MRI in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). This activity is intended for neurologists, radiologists, primary care clinicians, advanced practice clinicians, nurses, and other clinicians on the collaborative team managing care for patients with MS. The program can take up to 60 minutes to complete and registration will expire at the end of December 2024.

After the completion of this activity, clinicians should be better able to:

1. Discuss the consensus recommendations for the use of MRI in the diagnosis and prognosis of MS.
2. Review recommendations for follow-up monitoring of disease activity, efficacy of disease modifying treatment, and safety monitoring.
3. Review key recommendations and changes featured in the MAGNIMS-CMSC-NAIMS consensus recommendations on the use of MRI among patients with MS.
4. Apply best practices for the integration of the MAGNIMS-CMSC-NAIMS consensus recommendations on the use of MRI in patients with MS into interdisciplinary, team-based care in the clinical setting.

This activity will be guided by 2 experts, David K.B. Li, MD, FRCPC, Professor Emeritus of Radiology & Associate Member Medicine (Neurology); Emeritus Director UBC MS/MRI Research Group; associate director, North American Registry for Care and Research in MS (NARCRMS) at University of British Columbia, and Anthony Traboulsee, MD, FRCPC, professor at University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine (Neurology) MS Society of Canada Research Chair.

Credit Designation

Physician Continuing Education (CE)

CMSC designates this activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s), clinicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the program.

Nurses

CMSC designates this activity for a maximum of 1.0 nursing continuing professional development credit, but none in the area of pharmacology.

Pharmacists

This activity, UAN JA4008165-9999-23-029-H01-P, qualifies for 1.0 contact hours (.10 CEUs) of continuing pharmacy education credit.

Interprofessional Continuing Education

The activity was planned by and for health care teams, and participants will receive 1.0 interprofessional continuing education credit for learning and change.

Other health care professionals who complete this course will be issued a statement of participation.

How to Participate and Obtain CE Credit

There are no fees for participation and receival of credit for this course. During the time that the activity is available for credit, participants must:

Complete the posttest and the evaluation form.

A score of 75% correct must be achieved on the posttest to successfully complete the activity. If participants do not receive a passing score, they will receive a message notifying them that they did not pass the posttest. Clinicians may retake the posttest until successful. Upon completion of the evaluation, a certificate will be emailed to the participant.
