"We know that when families are connected to other families, their mental health improves. They are more adherent to their medication plans and their appointments with clinicians. We want to make sure that we're supporting families as much as humanly possible."

At the 54th Child Neurology Society (CNS) Annual Meeting, held October 8-11, 2025, in Charlotte, North Carolina, experts in an educational symposium examined the role of collaboration in supporting the child neurology community and patient care. In the session, speakers from multiple disciplines discussed strategies for improving coordination among clinicians, researchers, industry representatives, and advocacy organizations. Participants during the symposium had the opportunity to review approaches to strengthen partnerships across sectors and consider practical ways to apply collaborative methods in clinical and research settings.

During this symposium at CNS 2025, Kim Hindery, the executive director at the Child Neurology Foundation (CNF), presented on how to enhance patient outcomes through connecting families to resources.1 As a mother and advocate of children with neurological conditions, Hindery has an understanding of the successes and challenges that may come with being a caregiver in the family. She has expressed that these caregiver experiences have strengthened her commitment to making sure that every family with a child living with a neurological disorder has all the resources, support, and community that they might need.

In an interview at the meeting with Contemporary Pediatrics, our sister publication, Hindery highlighted CNF’s collaborative approach to improve patient and family care. She noted that CNF offers a streamlined referral process for clinicians and nurses to connect families with vital resources. By facilitating these connections, she underscored that CNF aims to enhance adherence, reduce caregiver burden, and strengthen family well-being. Hindery emphasized the organization’s role as a bridge between medical providers and community-based support, ensuring holistic care beyond the clinical setting.
