To gain better insights on some of the most notable innovations and developments from this year’s meeting, NeurologyLive® sat down with Andrei Alexandrov, MD, a stroke neurologist who joined as chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in 2023.
Alexandrov, who specializes in the development of novel reperfusion therapies for stroke, provided commentary on the evolving landscape of stroke care, particular focusing on mechanical thrombectomy and its expanding indications. He also emphasized the significance of the MeVO trials, which explore the potential of treating medium-level occlusions, an area once thought to be beyond the reach of current technology. Above all, he highlighted the broader trends of stroke care, noting a shift toward expanding treatment windows and reducing reliance on imaging to exclude patients from treatment.
