"We’re entering a new era for CIDP, where treatment isn’t just about symptom control—it’s about understanding disease activity at the molecular level, getting to diagnosis sooner, and using precision therapies to improve long-term outcomes."
In chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), advances in both diagnostics and treatment have reshaped disease management. High-resolution nerve imaging and nerve ultrasound are improving diagnostic accuracy, while updated EFNS/PNS criteria have refined patient classification. On the therapeutic front, newer subcutaneous immunoglobulin formulations have offered patients more flexible, home-based treatment options.
CIDP will be among the many different neuromuscular diseases covered at the 2025 Carolina Neuromuscular Summit, a 1-day educational event hosted on September 26th by Physicians Education Resource (PER). During this virtual and in-person event, neuromuscular expert Karissa Gable, MD, will present a session on rewiring recovery and the use of evidence-based approaches to managing CIDP, a condition that affects between 0.7 and 10.3 cases per 100,000 people.
Gable, a neurologist at Duke Health, sat down with NeurologyLive® prior to the meeting to give the clinical audience insights on her presentation and the benefits of attending. In the conversation, Gable discussed how the field is shifting from traditional first-line options to more individualized strategies, including anti-FcRn and complement inhibitors. Furthermore, she emphasized the potential of biomarkers and advanced sequencing tools to accelerate diagnosis and help personalize care, with the ultimate goal of preserving nerve function and improving quality of life.
